Rule for Lettering Road-Coaches

In einem Artikel von 1904 -
A Season with the Road-Coach-Pioneer-
schreibt Reginald Rives über die Beschriftung einer Road Coach

Der Name der Coach steht auf dem Namenspaneel
unter der hinteren Sitzbank.

Auf der hinteren Heckklappe wird der Bestimmungsort oben
und der Startpunkt unten angeschrieben.

Wenn eine Coach bereit zum Start ist , steht der Name des Bestimmungsortes auf den Stützen des Bocksitzes und der Name des Startpunktes auf den Stützen des Groomsitzes.

Die Namen von Orten des Haltens und des Pferdewechsels  werden in umgekehrter Folge abgebildet, auf die vorderen und hinteren  Kastenpaneele . Wobei die Beschriftung auf den vorderen Kastenpaneelen von oben nach unten gelesen werden sollte und auf den hinteren Kastenpaneelen von unten nach oben. 

Das gleiche geschieht auf der gegenüber liegenden Seite, aber dann in der umgekehrten Reihenfolge. Ausgenommen sind die Durchquerungsorte die werden nicht dupliziert auf der anderen Seite, das heißt, nicht mehr Orte werden aufgeschrieben auf einer Seite ,als Platz zum anschreiben der Schriftzüge ist, wie im Falle der “Pioneer” .

In der Mitte der unteren Türpaneele kann das Club oder Besitzer-Emblem  angebracht werden, im Falle der Pioneer das Emblem des New Yorker Coach Clubs

The name of the coach goes on the name board underneath the rear seat. On the rear tailboard the destination goes at the top and the starting point at the bottom. When a coach is drawn up ready to start, the name of the destination goes on the box-seat riser, and the name of the starting point on the rumble riser. Names of the places en route in the rotation in which they are passed go on the front and rear boot, reading from the front boot down, and up on the rear boot. The same on the other side, only it is reversed, except the places passed through are not duplicated on the other side; that is, more places thant here is room for on one side, as in the case of the “Pioneer.” In this event, continue on the opposite side, only starting from the top of the rear boot down and up on the front boot.In the middle of the lower door panels the club or owner's emblem can be appropriated, in case of Pioneer the emblem of the - New York Coach Club -
